The Secret to Getting Hired Anywhere
The secret to getting hired is very simple. Have you ever heard the phrase, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know”? I’m here to tell you that’s true! So how do you get to know more people? Networking!
It really is THAT simple! The more people you know, the more people you can personally reach out to when you need to find a job fast.
Don’t wait until you’re out of a job, or completely fed up with your current one. Start networking today so you help those relationships already in hand when you need them!
Imagine learning that you are getting laid off and not having a new job lined up. I’ve been in this situation many times, and I had to resort to submitting my resume to job board websites. It’s difficult to get an interview from that alone, because managers receive dozens of resumes from those postings.
Networking makes it easier to learn about open positions, and it makes it easier to get an interview. Hiring managers look at people they know first! When I needed to hire someone in my previous management positions, I first thought about whether I knew anyone who would be interested. Second, I would ask my team members if they knew anyone they could refer for the position. Sifting through resumes from my online job posting was actually my last resort!
Networking can be tricky, especially for me and my fellow introverts. It’s difficult to go to a place or an event where you don’t know anyone and actively engage with strangers.
